Why Using One Recruiter Works Better Than Using Many
What comes to mind when you see multiple “For Sale” signs outside a house?
Is there something wrong with the property? Are they desperate to sell? Is it less desirable? And who are you supposed to contact?
It’s not that different when you use multiple recruiters to find one person.
We usually only use one estate agent when selling a house. I’d recommend employers take the same approach when hiring. I get it, finding the right person is a top priority. A vacancy comes up and the instinct is to cover all bases by contacting every recruiter you know. Many hands make light work, right?
The reality is more complicated.
Using multiple recruiters = mixed messages
Candidates get contacted by several recruiters, sometimes about the same job. Agencies might take different briefs, pitch it differently, or leave out key details, leaving the candidate questioning things:
“Does the role pay £35k like Agency A says? Or is it actually £45k OTE? Is it a backfill? Or is the company growing?”
In today’s job market, you don’t want your potential hires getting five different versions of the same story. It raises questions, can put people off, and often leads to confusion, not results.
When everyone’s responsible, no one really is
Estate agents often charge more and do less when they know they’re one of five. Recruiters are no different.
If you give the job to Recruiters A, B, C, D and E, why would any of them go all in? The odds of getting paid are 1 in 5. It becomes a race to send CVs… fast, not well. CVs are thrown at the wall, and everyone hopes theirs sticks.
That’s not how we work.
We don’t take on roles where we’re up against multiple other agencies. It’s not best practice, for us or for you.
Why using one recruiter works better
When we’re working exclusively, we go all in. We’ll:
- Take the time to get the brief right
- Work the role properly
- Only send committed, qualified candidates
- Tell you if we don’t think someone’s quite right
And if it takes a few weeks longer to find the best person, we’ll tell you that too.
We’re not here to squeeze someone through your door for the sake of speed. We’re here to get it right for you and the candidate.
It’s a long-term approach that works
Since we started in 2017, we’ve made hundreds of placements. Only a small number of those people are no longer with the businesses we placed them in. That’s not luck! It’s about really getting to know both sides.
We’re transparent with our clients and candidates about the good, the bad, and everything in between. We don’t oversell. Everyone knows what they’re signing up for.
That’s how we build long-term partnerships and provide long-term hires.
